If you like to drive your Miata, this is your chance to maximize the fun and spend two days driving some two lanes roads of Washington and Oregon. The hosts have pulled out all the stops to incorporate their favorite scenic sports motoring roads through forests, farms, hills and small towns. Much of the route has never been used by Miata clubs before.
This is a two-day driving event, about 160 miles on two-laners each day, no freeways. The first day is Centralia to Newberg, second day is Newberg to Eugene, and all at cruising speeds.
This is a “pre-run” to the Willamette Valley Miata Club’s “Explore Oregon 2021” meet at Eugene, Oregon July 15-18. Your attendance to that event is highly recommended as it is a ton of fun. But if you’d just like to travel south with our group and then continue elsewhere, you are welcome to do that. We would love to have you join us either way. To participate in Explore Oregon, you must register separately but it’s not required to come on this pre-run.
START LOCATION: Meet outside Starbucks at 1129 Harrison Ave., Centralia, WA 98531. This is in front of the big Safeway and across from the outlet malls complex. From I-5 take exit 82 (Outlet Malls) and go NW on Harrison, then left at traffic light into parking lot. Meet Wednesday July 14 at 9:15 AM and leave about 9:30 AM.
We’ll be zooming over some great back roads with an overnight stop in Newberg OR. Your hosts will be staying at a Holiday Inn Express at 501 Sitka Ave. There is a Best Western just a couple doors away. (Both are close to Starbucks) Make your own room reservations.
Wednesday’s highlight will be a late lunch in Vernonia OR at the Blue House which serves some of the best Mediterranean food in the Northwest.
Thursday we’ll take more back roads to Eugene, arriving in time for the event opening activities. Lunch Thursday will be flexible. Lunch will be as Covid allows at your choice of multiple fast food and cafes located in close proximity to each other along our route.
FRS walkie-talkie radios (not old CBs) suggested for this run and the event. Rustic rest room supplies and in-car snacks are also suggested because some of this run is fairly remote.
Please RSVP for this drive on our own PSMC web site calendar (and show your name, don’t be “anonymous”) so your hosts know who’s coming along.
[NOTE: You must pre-register separately with WVMC for Explore Oregon to attend that meet. See the host club web site at http://www.oregonmx5.com ]
