Where: Each year, the PSMC elects a slate of board members who guide the direction of the club. Often, this is such a fun job that people hold on to board positions for several years, and sometimes they even become officers. The club’s president may only serve one year (not two consecutive years) according to the by-laws. This ensures that the club always has fresh ideas and new faces getting involved. Well, it’s that time again. While it may seem to you like this article was just in the Sounder last week, it’s actually been a whole year. Our leader, Tom Millar, will relinquish the Presidential reins in June, and since he can’t do this job for a second year, the position is up for grabs. Other jobs also are up for grabs. They must be filled if the club is to survive and thrive. This begs the question: have you served on the board yet? If you have not, then maybe it’s time to step up. Over the past 20 years, you have seen lots of names of our membership who have served on the board, served as President, and served a number of years in anchor positions that help us keep the club healthy. If you have served, you know what’s involved, but if you haven’t maybe it’s your turn. What’s involved in serving on the board? Here’s a quick rundown of some key positions: The President of the club leads the board meetings, sets the agenda, and keeps Board members informed of business that occurs in-between meetings. Also, the President needs to be able to attend events and support members who plan events as wll as provide leadership at club events. Board Members "voted in" are responsible for attending board meetings and making decisions about club expenditures. The board also sets the schedule of events for the year, making sure that drives are not in conflict with one another. Also, the Board Members host two or three events a year. The board puts on the annual Detailin’ Day and plans the annual Great Northwest Gathering. Though not required in the Bylaws, the Board often hosts an annual celebration, such as the 20th Anniversary Party held in January. The Communication Coordinator "voted in" is responsible for putting together packets for new members who join the club and mailing them out monthly. This position is currently open and being handled by the McGriff's. (Editors Note: name error in the printed Sounder) The Data Coordinator position "appointee/volunteer" is the one who handles updating and keeping the database of the membership current. Additionally, the Data Coordinator generates membership cards for new or renewing members and takes care of mailing these documents to members. Finally, the data coordinator sends out the Sounder each month, either online or in the mail. Sean, with the help of Pam McGriff has done this job the past three years and is ready to pass the reins to someone else. Currently, the club is also without a Parade Coordinator or possibly two Co-Coordinators "appointee/volunteer", whose job it is to liason with various Parade Chairs in the area and the drivers willing to carry someone. Many people rely on the PSMC’s members to provide vehicles to carry local royalty and dignitaries in parades during the summer. Without a Coordinator, this service will not happen. It’s just another way the club provides service to the community and gets our name in the public. Instuctional help is available from past Coordinators, Mindy Bohnas and Dan White. Our Webmaster "appointee/volunteer" would like to step down to spend time with his family. John Young has worked hard to make many of our website functions automated and/or easy to update so it isn't a hard job for anyone with basic website creating knowledge to keep simple new and past event articles in motion. However, someone with specific PHP, MYSQL and CSS knowledge would be needed to fix any crashes or create new capabilities. The PSMC Board would also entertain a whole new website setup and direction if someone is truly ambitious and wants to make major changes. Anyone interested in the website or parade positions, please contact Mindy Bohnas directly via the email link below or by calling 360-895-0931, evenings. Editor of the Sounder "appointee/volunteer" is an ambitious job that requires someone with good English skills and a knack for picking up software use quickly. The PSMC Sounder is created using Pagemaker and Photoshop software. Training is provided by the present editor to the new editor. This job requires 20-30 hours per month and is going to be open this year at some point. We all know how easy it is to just let someone else do it. This has resulted in a few taking care of the work for many and our club not having the benefit of new talent. But as you can see, there are several positions open in key areas that will put the club’s future at risk unless someone steps up. If you would like to help shape the future of the Puget Sound Miata Club or know someone who might, please call or email a member of the Nominating Committee listed in the next paragraph and they will call the person you nominate and/or tell you more about specific responsibilities required or put you in touch with someone who can. Or, if you really think the club is heading in the wrong direction and want to effect change, nominate yourself so you can get voted in to sit on the Board and see your ideas take action. The Nominating Committee members are:
, These committee members will contact any and all names that are given as nominees to see if that member is willing to run for an office. Please nominate anyone you think would help our club be the best it can be. If you would like more information about any of the positions please check out our Constitution and Bylaws The Nominating Meeting will be followed by a Board Meeting immediately afterwards. All club members are invited to attend. The Board will meet March 27 for hot dogs and hamburgers at 11:30 a.m. at the home of Tom and Cindy Millar, followed by a board meeting to nominate new officers. If you want to eat lunch, please bring a side dish to share. If not, just attend the meeting and bring your new energy and ideas.
Directions: We hope to see you there. If you do not have the chance to contact one of us before the meeting you can still show up and submit your name at the meeting.
